El Centro Sector Border Patrol first in U.S. to use new immobilization device
El Centro Sector border patrol agents were the first in the country to use a vehicle equipped with new immobilization device.
According to a news release by border patrol, residents called to report suspicious behavior near Gordon’s Well exit and Interstate 8 involving a yellow PT Cruiser. Agents found the vehicle and attempted to perform a stop but the vehicle would not pull over.
Additional agents then arrived in the new vehicle equipped with the immobilization device with the “Grappler.” The device helped successfully stop the PT Cruiser following a short pursuit.

Agents said they found four Mexican citizens, all without the proper documentation to enter or remain in the country, in the back of the vehicle. The driver, a 20-year-old male border crossing card holder, and the front passenger, a 17-year-old female United States citizen, were detained.
They will remain in custody pending criminal prosecution. The four Mexican citizens will be held as material witnesses.
