Cabazon outlets ditch paid parking policy
It was a much-contested policy change that had shoppers and outlet workers alike livid. And now, it is no more; parking will be price-free once again at the Desert Hills Outlets, according to an internal memo acquired by News Channel 3.
” Based on customer feedback indicating they preferred the previous structure, parking will be free of charge at Desert Hills Premium Outlets effective December 1st, 2018,” read the memo.
We first reported on the above-mentioned charge four and a half months ago, in July.
“Last night, well yesterday, I came in at 1:30 (p.m.) to close we didn’t get out until 10 (p.m.) so I had to walk all the way to McDonald’s by myself. Yeah it’s scary,” said Priscilla Medel, an employee at Desert Hills Outlets.

Employees organized after the policy was implemented and created a petition which garnered over 3,200 signatures. The outlets responded to accommodate the employees, allowing them to park on otherwise pay-to-park structure’s 4th level from Monday-Friday free of cost. (The 4th level will remain designated for employees, according to the memo.)

The internal memo did mention, however, a possible opening for ‘paid parking opportunities’ in the East and West Villages during the holiday season.
