Student-Athlete of the Week – Damien King
On the basketball court Damien King is a multi-skilled player. With a quick blink he will get you for 20 points and 8 rebounds, which is what he did last year as the league MVP.
“This senior year I’m hoping to win league because I haven’t won league as an Indian player. I also want to go back-to-back MVP and be an all-CIF player,” said Damien King.
And this Fall in his senior year he decided to give football a try for the first time in his career.
“The challenge is more so the heat and practice time and stuff like that because I’m used to be inside in the AC in the gym,” said King.
A naturally gifted athlete with a hard-working mentality to match but he’s had to rely on that hard work in the classroom. A tough freshman for DK but the GPA has been on the climb.
“How bad I wanted it. I want to play basketball after high school or want to have that opportunity so I taked it into crunch time,” said King.
“His improvement in school has been like his improvement on the basketball court. From sophomore year to being a first year varsity player to now being the reigning MVP, I have seen more of a dedication and a focus on and off the court,” said Chris Howard, PSHS Indians head basketball coach.
He also finds the rhythm.
“I don’t make the beats but I usually write lyrics for songs and stuff like that,” said King.
And also finding a future career as he hopes to be a sports broadcaster one day.
“I just love sports, honestly and I love to argue about certain things.”
