Storm brings rain, hazardous conditions to the desert

It’s raining in Palm Springs. It’s been raining in Banning since at least noon Wednesday. And similar conditions will persist for the area until Thursday.

The out-of-the-ordinary conditions can cause quite a few problems for Coachella Valley drivers who aren’t quite used to the conditions; here are some recommended tips for driving in the storm, courtesy o f AAA:

Avoid roads that appear flooded with water flowing Avoid driving on the 74 Replace windshield wipers Check headlights, tail lights, brake lights and turn signals Always turn on headlights Avoid cruise control Slow down Leave following distance Even as slow as 35mph new tires can spin out Avoid slamming on brakes if you skid Continue steering in the direction you want to go Don’t panic Limit distractions

So far, no road closures due to flooding in the Coachella Valley. Stay with News Channel 3 as we continue to follow the storm.
