Bush’s body laid in state at Capitol Rotunda in Washington D.C. Monday evening until Wednesday morning. Petty Officer 3rd Class Ronald Johnson served as guard all three days from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Johnson graduated from LQHS in 2011.

“It was very different than anything I’ve ever experienced. My other missions, which is executing Navy funerals at Arlington National Cemetery, this mission was a lot bigger,” Johnson said. “I was like, ‘Hey I’m a sailor here to do my job, I know what’s behind this mission so I have to do everything right and proper,'” Johnson said.

Johnson said he also participated in memorial services for John McCain back in September.
