Sunday’s Ironman triathlon to close local roadways

Some roads in Indian Wells and La Quinta will be closed this Sunday for the first annual Ironman Triathlon.

The 70.3-mile triathlon starts at 7 a.m. at Lake Cahuilla, go through La Quinta, and end at the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens.

The City of La Quinta provided a guide for getting around the city Sunday:

Purple section: To Head North (i.e. Interstate 10)
– Head north on Jefferson St. To Head West (i.e. Palm Desert)
– Head north on Jefferson St.
– Turn left onto Fred Waring Dr. and head west To Head East (i.e. Indio) Route 1
– No recommended detour To Head to La Quinta Cove
– Head north on Jefferson St.
– Turn left onto Fred Waring Dr. and head west
– Turn left onto El Dorado Dr. and head south
– Turn left onto HWY 111 and head east
– Turn right onto Washington St. and head south
– Turn right onto Eisenhower Dr. or Ave 52 Yellow Section To Head North or South (Depending on your location and destination)
– Use Madison St. Jefferson St, Eisenhower Dr., Washington St. To Head East or West (Depending on your location and destination)
– Use Ave 54, Ave 52, Ave 50 (westbound only), Eisenhower Dr., Hwy 111 (no through traffic at Adams St.)
– Utilize Fred Waring Dr. as Indio and Bermuda Dunes Detour Orange Section To exit turn right onto Washington St. and head north
– Washington St. and Sagebrush Ave will be metered when returning and exiting while the race is active to return utilize southbound Washington St and turn left onto Sagebrush Ave To Head North or South (Depending on your location and destination)
– Use Madison St. Jefferson St, Eisenhower Dr., Washington St. To Head East or West (Depending on your location and destination)
– Use Ave 54, Ave 52, Ave 50 (westbound only), Eisenhower Dr., Hwy 111 (no through traffic at Adams St.)
– Utilize Fred Waring Dr. as Indio and Bermuda Dunes Detour Blue Section To Exit turn right onto Adams St or Miles Ave. depending on your location To return use Washington St. from HWY 111 and turn right onto Miles Ave. To head South (Depending on your location and destination
– Use Madison St. Jefferson St, Eisenhower Dr., Washington St. To Head East or West (Depending on your location and destination)
– Utilize Fred Waring Dr. as Indio and Bermuda Dunes Detour Pink Section

To Head North (i.e. Interstate 10)
– Head north on Madison St. Traffic will be metered at Madison/Ave 58 intersection (expect delays)
– Turn left onto Ave 54 and head west
– Turn right onto Jefferson St. and head north
– Turn left on Ave 52 and head west
– Turn right on Washington St. and head north
– Turn left on HWY 111 and head west
– Turn right on Cook St. and head north To Head East (i.e. Indio) Route 1
– Head north on Madison St. – Traffic will be metered at Madison/Ave 58 intersection (expect delays)
– Turn left onto Ave 54 and head west
– Turn right onto Jefferson St. and head north
– Turn left on Ave 52 and head west
– Turn right on Washington St. and head north
– Turn left on HWY 111 and head west
– Turn right on El Dorado St. and head north
– Turn right on Fred Waring Dr. and head east To Head West (i.e. Palm Desert)
– To Interstate 10
