Border Patrol arrests Guatemalan man wanted for child sexual assault

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a Guatemalan national wanted for the sexual assault of a child in Texas near Calexico Friday.

At 9:40 a.m., agents encountered a man, later identified as 32-year-old Hector Rene Portillo of Guatemala, suspected of making illegal into the United States approximately 18 miles west of the Calexico Port of Entry.

After questioning, it was determined that Portillo was in the country illegally, and he was transported to the El Centro Border Patrol station for processing. After record checks and research into his criminal background, it was revealed that Portillo had an extraditable warrant for the sexual assault of a child out of Kaufman County, Texas.

Portillo will first be federally prosecuted for illegal entry into the United States and then extradited to Texas for his sexual assault warrant.
