Former Rams quarterback Vince Ferragamo shares Super Bowl insider knowledge

Football fans around the country and here in the valley are spending their Sunday enjoying Super Bowl 53. Many fans are at sports bars and other hangouts, enjoying the battle between the Patriots and the Rams.

News Channel 3’s Jake Ingrassia was at a watch party at Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa, speaking with former quarterback Vince Ferragamo, who started on the Los Angeles Rams 39 years ago and played in the 1980 Super Bowl.

“This atmosphere here (at Agua Caliente) almost senses the same you would feel in an actual stadium with all the excitement and fans that are cheering for both teams,” Ferragamo said.

Watching the start of the game, we asked Ferragamo what he thought was going through players’ minds as they walked out onto the field at.

“It’s butterflies,” he said. “You’re nervous going into the first game. You’ve got to get hit first adn then after you get into the flow of things, it settles down, the nerves kind of subside and you can actually play your type of game.”

Ferragamo said the rams deserved to be in the Super Bowl this year, after playing as one of the top teams all year long.

“This is the biggest game of all,” he said. “It’s so much fun to play in a game like that when the lights are the brightest and its on the biggest stage.”

And at another watch party at Burgers and Beer in Rancho Mirage, patriots fans were showing their support.

“It’s always great, it’s always nail biting too because we have a history of winning a lot, and losing as well, because we’ve been there so many times,” Christian Colin said.

And Rams fans were rooting on their team as well.

“I’m from L.A. so it’s just our team and we’re loving it and they’re doing good,” Hugo Ramos said.

The manager of the restaurant enjoyed more customers than usual thanks to the Super Bowl.

“It always brings up business,” said Gus Lopez, manager. “You get an opportunity if you’ve never been here to actually enjoy something that’s family oriented.”

Valley Super Bowl fans enjoyed the comradery of the game.

“At the end of the day, someone’s rooting for someone and it brings us all together,” Colin said. “We’re all at the same restaurant, we’re all drinking beer and we’re all having good food.”

“This restaurant’s full,” Ramos said. “Everybody’s happy, everybody’s supporting everybody, everybody’s having a good time!”
