Rep. Ruiz reacts to President Trump’s State of the Union

Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz spoke with News Channel 3’s John White right after President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address.

Ruiz said he isn’t sold on the president’s pledge to work across the aisle.

“There was a push for unity. Was it enough to create any sense of bipartisanship? In the same speech, he mocked and ridiculed the other party while calling for bipartisanship. So, this is the way we need to approach the president and he needs to be reminded, we’re an equal branch of government,” Ruiz said.

TSA worker David Sherman was Ruiz’s guest at the SOTU. He says he hopes both sides can come together and avoid another shutdown.

“Hopefully, there won’t be another shutdown. I am hoping he does bipartisan and follows through with that part and we’ll see what happens, take it one day at a time,” Sherman said.

Congress faces a deadline of February 15 to avoid another shutdown.
