Drivers who use Highway 111 from the Whitewater area, there’s finally some good news…With part of the highway fully reopening Wednesday morning. According to the Palm Springs Police Department…inbound or southbound traffic on Highway 111, between Interstate 10 and Overture Road will be reopening today at 8 a.m.

This means if you’re coming into Palm Springs you should be fine. However, outbound or northbound traffic will remain closed until the late afternoon after 4 p.m.

The roadway will be closed northbound from Snow Creek to Chino Canyon from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Feb 27.

Northbound travelers will be detoured to Indian Canyon Drive to Interstate 10 as an alternate route.

Drivers passing through the open section of the road are advised to reduce their speed in the work zone.

All this comes after Highway 111 experienced a partial closure during the Feb. 14 Storm due to mud, rocks, and debris spilling onto the road. It also caused some vehicles to get stuck in the mud in the area of Overture road.

Repairs are being funded through a $14 million grant from Caltrans with $3.5 million budgeted to repair Highway 111.
