Volunteers build bikes for children in foster care

Two local organizations teamed-up tonight to build bikes for foster care children.

The non-profit organization ‘Together We Rise’ partnered with ‘Benevity,’ an online volunteering and community investment software company, to build 120 bikes for children in foster care. The workshop took place at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort in Rancho Mirage.

“It is so important because every day 1,200 kids enter the foster care system here in America. They are often forgotten and neglected and they don’t get to experience those childhood moments like getting a bicycle,” Gianna Dahlia, executive director of “Together We Rise.”

The foster agency “Sheltering Palms” came out with a U-Haul truck to pick up the bikes and will distribute them tomorrow morning.
