School bus crashes near Desert Hot Springs, adult injured

An adult sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash involving a Palm Springs Unified School District bus on Monday morning near Desert Hot Springs.

The crash was reported around 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of Palm Drive and Dillon Road. The bus was transporting nine adult passengers and four student aids, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP investigators say the bus was struck from behind. The crash happened when a 20-year-old female driving a Toyota Corolla southbound on Palm Drive near Dillon Avenue. As she was driving, the bus was stopped at the signal light. The woman was “traveling at a speed too fast for the traffic condition ahead of her vehicle.” The front of the Toyota Corolla then crashed into the rear of the school bus, causing minor damage to both vehicles.

The driver of the bus and two adult students suffered from complaint of pain injuries. One aid was transported by AMR to Desert Regional Medical Center with a complaint of pain to her head.

No lanes were blocked due to the collision, but traffic has slowed in the immediate area.

Police say alcohol and/or drugs does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
