Man arrested after police chase, crashing stolen car off I-10

A man has been arrested after leading police on a chase that ended when he crashed the stolen car he was driving off of Interstate 10 onto a Cabazon street.

At 11:11 a.m., Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputies spotted a vehicle with expired tags by Morongo Casino in Cabazon. Deputies attempted a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield, then took off onto I-10 eastbound.

During the chase, the vehicle blew out a tire, caught fire while still in motion, then crashed off an embankment on I-10, crashing the car onto Main Street in Cabazon.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was arrested. A female passenger fled the vehicle after the crash but was also apprehended. Deputies later discovered that the vehicle was stolen.

The man complained of pain in his wrist and was transported to an area hospital as a precaution.
