Indio Police arrest suspect in vehicle that matched description of shooting

According to the Indio Police Department, officer Plata spotted a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle involved in a shooting on Wednesday. Plata attempted to stop the vehicle but the vehicle would not yield. A vehicle pursuit ensued that lasted until the vehicle pulled into a church on Miles Avenue and Clinton Street. The suspect then fled on foot, officer Plata was able to catch them and placed them into custody.

Dispatch then received reports that several juveniles had taken the backpack that was thrown out during the pursuit. Witnesses said the juveniles then ran into a residence. Officers spoke with the residents and were able to retrieve the backpack.

Officers said the backpack contained a “Glock 9mm pistol, a 32 round magazine, and other miscellaneous items.” The firearm also appeared to have been modified, “allowing it to fire in full-automatic mode.” It also had a threaded barrel.

Police have not released any information on the suspect or the reported shooting. Stay with News Channel 3 for any updates.
