Palm Springs High School band will perform at St Patrick’s Day parade in Dublin, Ireland
Palm Springs High School’s “Spirit of the Sands” band will perform at the St Patrick’s Day parade in Dublin, Ireland.
The band will depart for Dublin on March 14.
The band will also perform at the Mansion House, the residence of the Lord Mayor of Dublin since 1715. That performance will be apart of the opening festivities and will be broadcast on Ireland’s National TV RTE Network as part of the “Ray D’Arcy Show.”
The band will get to do some sightseeing at some of Ireland’s landmarks.
Flautist Genesis O’ Connell, a senior at PSHS, said she is excited to see a statue of Daniel O’Connell, whom she is a descendant of. Daniel O’Connell is known as the “Emancipator” or the “Liberato.” He was a major political leader in Ireland at the beginning of the 19th century.
Genesis said, “I’ll be able to see part of where my family comes from and I’ll get to experience my family history first hand”.
This is the band’s first performance in Ireland. They have performed all over the world including, Edinburgh, Copenhagen, Paris, Dubrovinik, Ljubljana, Milan, Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, Sydney, Canberra, Auckland, Capetown, Johannesburg.
Last year, the band performed at the 32nd annual London New Year’s Day Parade.

According to the band’s website, the London performance was what got the attention of the Lord Mayor of Dublin.
The band was also selected to represent California at the President Barack Obama’s Inaugural Parade in 2013.
