Superheroes 5k supports animal therapy, humane education

Animal Samaritans’ annual Superheroes 5k run and walk kicked off today at Rancho Mirage Park emmceed by News Channel 3’s Angela Chen.

The dog-friendly event brought close to 300 participants and an expected 20,000 dollars in funds for humane education and no-kill animal shelters across the valley.

Animal Samaritans offers adoptions, two full service vet clinics, as well as humane education programs and pet therapy. The mission is to combat pet overpopulation and homelessness.

According to CEO Tom Snyder, “the theme is superheroes so we just want to remind everybody who rescues, adopts or just is … a good pet owner is a super hero to the animals.” Synder said people looking for a new pet are encouraged to adopt, not shop, for a dog from one of the valley’s many shelters.
