Double murder suspect arrested in Cathedral City

Marcos Gaeta, the man suspected of two murders — one in Indio in 2016 and one in Avondale, Arizona earlier this month is behind bars.

“All cases…are never closed until someone is found and it’s been determined that they are responsible for the crimes they’ve committed,” said Benjamin Guitron, Public Information Officer, Indio Police Dept.

It’s been three years since officers arrived at an Indio home finding Jamie Maher murdered — shot multiple times.

And another victim was found murdered in Arizona earlier this month. Avondale and Indio police worked together to track down Gaeta: “Both agencies worked together and were successfully able to locate him and arrest him,” said Guitron.

That long awaited arrest occurred at a Circle K on the corner of Date Palm and Ramon.

Gaeta was armed with a loaded handgun but safely taken into custody thanks to a joint effort by the Riverside County Gang Impact Team, the Indio Police Department Street Crimes Unit and the District Attorney’s Office.

Jamie Maher’s mother exclusively released this statement to us: “Where Jamie is, she doesn’t need justice, but our family needs justice and the community needs justice.”

And Indio police vow to deliver just that: “We hold people accountable for what they did. It’s very important. It’s very important for us because it gives us closure in holding someone accountable, but it gives the family and friends some sort of closure about what happened to their friends,” said Guitron.

We reached out to Avondale police who tell us they’re working on notifying the victims’ next of kin, but they expect to release more information on Tuesday. Gaeta is also expected to appear in court Tuesday morning.
