Man in custody after Desert Hot Springs deputy-involved shooting
A man is in custody following a deputy-involved shooting in Desert Hot Springs Tuesday morning.
47-year-old Desert Hot Springs resident Juan Gonzalez Jr. has been identified as the suspect arrested following this morning’s incident. Gonzalez was not struck in the deputy-involved shooting and was not injured.
No citizens, officers, or deputies were injured during the incident. The Riverside Sheriff’s Department has taken over the investigation.
The shooting occurred after a man barricaded himself in a home in Desert Hot Springs near the intersection of Tarbutton Road and San Gorgonio Street. DHSPD officers received a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at the residence around 1:45 a.m. They responded to the scene and were told by witnesses that a man, later identified as Gonzalez, was in the home shooting a gun while family members, some children, were present.
The deputy-involved shooting happened just after 5:00 a.m, several hours after Gonzalez initially barricaded himself in the residence.

San Gorgonio Road is shut down between Bubbling Wells and Yerxa Road. DHS Police is asking drivers to avoid the area.
DHS Police officers and Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies are on the scene.
The scene is near Bubbling Wells Elementary School, but so far operations are not affected.
