Family of woman killed in Hwy 86 rollover crash speaks out

The family of the woman killed in a deadly rollover crash on Highway 86 in Coachella Wednesday is speaking to News Channel 3’s Jake Ingrassia.

Officials identified the victim as 30-year-old Anakaren Sanchez of Indio. Sanchez’s 10-year-old daughter survived the crash.

“My granddaughter says my daughter had her eyes open. That she called, ‘Mommy.’ And then my daughter didn’t answer,” said Maricela Carballo, Sanchez’s mother.

“We never assumed she was going to die before,” Carballo said. “I always thought I was going to die before she. We werent ready for that.”

After surveying the damage to the totaled SUV Thursday, Carballo said the car rolled over 3 or 4 times, landing on its wheels.

“This car sort of stopped and my daughter tried to avoid hitting him,” she said. “She swerved to the left and then they rolled over.”

The windows on the car are completely shattered, and some of the wheels are missing.

Carballo said Sanchez was a certified nursing assistant at Manor Care in Palm Desert.

“She used to help a lot of people, you know, old people that live there – she would come home crying saying mom this person died,” Carballo said. “A lot of people know her because she used to be kind to everybody. She used to try to help out everybody that she can.”

Sanchez leaves behind three kids, ages 4, 10 and 12. Their father died of a heart attack a few years ago.

Their family is now searching for answers on exactly how Sanchez crashed.

“That person never stopped, whoever it was in front of her,” Carballo said. “I wish somebody would come up and say whatever really happened but nobody has come up.”
