Elderly man hospitalized after fire in Thermal

Fire crews are battling a fire which has spread to two structures and surrounding vegetation on Jackson Street in Thermal.

The fire, which was reported at 2:15 p.m., broke out on the 62000 block of Jackson Street. 55 firefighters, 15 engine companies, and one overhead crew were on scene battling the blaze at one point.

An elderly man was hospitalized as a precaution due to breathing problems, according to Cal Fire Captain Fernando Herrera.

Herrera said one structure was completely lost and another was damaged. The victims told News Channel 3 at the scene the structure completely destroyed had already been abandoned. The other building was their home and most of the damage was in the attic.

The victims were a family of four who have been displaced. They said they will be staying with family who live nearby.

No firefighters have been injured.

The fire was contained at 4:06 p.m., according to Cal Fire.
