Prescribed burn begins on the Thomas Mountain
A prescribed fire has started on the Thomas mountain. It’s a project that authorities have been planning for over 15 years.
Crews are burning 1,074 acres along the northeast slope of Thomas Mountain in the San Bernardino National Forest. The burn is done to promote forest health and create defensible space during wildfires.
” This is very strict parameters that we’re focusing on and the difference is we’re not in mid-summer. It’s March, and we’re getting the fire to do what we want, ” said U.S. Forest Service Battalion Chief Matt Ahearn
Ahrean says his team welcomes questions from the community and stresses that ” not all fire is bad fire. ” Firefighters will be monitoring the burns.
