Todec Legal Center offering free workshop on SB 1159 this Friday

The Todec Legal Center is encouraging undocumented immigrants living in the Coachella Valley to come to a free workshop this Friday.

SB 1159 was passed by California in 2016. The bill requires all 40 licensing boards under the California Department of Consumer Affairs to consider applicants regardless of immigration status.

The new law provides opportunities for people pursuing careers that require licenses such as medicine and dentistry.

” SB 1159 we were able to pass it a while back but a lot of people are not aware of it, ” said Luz Gallegos, an instructor at the Todec Legal Center. ” It is very important that our community is aware and is taking advantage of these laws that are being passed in our state of California so that they can have better opportunity to provide for their family. ”

The workshop will be held this Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Todec Legal Center office at 1482 Sixth Street in Coachella. Officials will be there to answer questions regarding SB1159 for people interested in obtaining a legal license in California.

If you aren’t able to attend the workshop you can call 760-698-8787 for more information.
