Police seek public’s help finding robbery suspect

Police are seeking the public’s help finding a man wanted for a strongarm robbery in Beaumont over the weekend.

On March 29 at 11:03 a.m., a call went into the Beaumont Police Department for a robbery in progress on the 800 block of East 5th Street. The caller reported that an unknown man had come to the residence in regard to a posting about an electronic device for sale on a local ‘buy/sell app’ according to a BPD news release.

The man, who identified himself as ‘Albert’ to the seller, reportedly grabbed the item from the caller, threw counterfeit currency at the victim, then sprinted back to his car, a red four-door sedan, and fled the area.

The car was last seen traveling northbound on Palm Avenue from East 5th Street.

‘Albert’ is described as a 6’0″ white man, between 20-30 years of age, with light brown hair.

“We encourage our citizens when attempting to purchase or sell merchandise online, whether through an App or website to arrange to meet the person(s) in a well-lit, public area, or even arrange to meet at the police station to avoid being a victim,” read the BPD release.

Anyone with information relating to this incident is urged to contact the On-Duty Watch Commander at BPD at 951-769-8500. To issue a tip anonymously online, email crimetips@beaumontpd.org.
