News Channel 3 takes first look at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Spanning fourteen acres, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the largest single-themed land in Disney parks history, and for fans of the franchise, it’s been over 40 years in the making.

Once you arrive on the planet of Batuu, the rest of the park disappears, and your interactive experience begins.
Two new rides allow you to live your own adventure. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opens later this year. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is ready for guests to ride on Friday.

“You actually get to step behind the controls of the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy, and you really are flying it,” said Casey Ging, senior concept designer for Walt Disney Imagineering.

The ride requires a team of six to steer, shoot, and maintain the Millennium Falcon while you head into hyperspace.

To personalize your experience, guests can create light sabers or build droids from scratch.

“The droid actually activates as you experiment the land, and you get to live your own adventure with your own droid,” said Summer Bloomfield with Strategy and Merchandise.

Plus, take it a step further, by downloading the Play Disney Parks app on your smart phone.

“You can do things like hack droids and ships and gain some data from that as well as maybe start to build a reputation with the Resistance or the First Order that some of the villagers might hear about and start to comment on,” said creative producer with Walt Disney Imagineering, Anisha Deshmane.

For a taste of the galaxy far, far away, five new food locations immerse all the senses. 50 unique, exotic food and drink items are available for the whole family.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens to those with reservations on Friday, May 31. It will be open to the public without reservation on Monday, June 24.
