Man wanted in deadly hit-and-run arrested in Sky Valley
A man wanted for nearly a month for his alleged role in a deadly hit-and-run in Anza has been taken into custody, jail records show.
23-year-old Antone Wayne Bayard was arrested on Tuesday at approximately 3:10 p.m. on Corkill Road, according to county jail records. Corkhill road is located in Sky Valley/Desert Edge, according to Doria Wilms, assistant city manager for Desert Hot Springs.
The California Highway Patrol had been searching for Bayard since January 3. Police say Bayard was involved in a crash that killed a 63-year-old Aguanga woman on SR-371 just north of Wilson Valley Road. Police say Bayard fled the scene on foot.
Bayard later ended up in Rancho Mirage that same day, causing a massive nearly 8-hour manhunt in a neighborhood near the River shopping center.

Authorities had believed Bayard was in either Temecula or San Diego and plans to flee to Mexico.
Jail records show Bayard has been booke into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Beaumont. He faces homicide and hit-and-run charges and is being held on $2 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
