More than 100 valley Republicans tuned in to President Trump's State of the Union address Tuesday night at the East Valley Republican Women Federated headquarters in La Quinta.

"All these people are feeling such a need to get together and celebrate what's happened in the last 4 years," said Joy Miedecke, president of the East Valley Republican Women Federated.

"To the people of our great country, and to the members of Congress, the state of our union is stronger than ever before," President Trump said in the address.

Melissa Melendez, Republican state assemblywoman and candidate for California senate, said the state of the economy is something everyone can agree on.

"I think they want to hear about the strong economy, the unemployment rate being low, the fact that America is really humming along very strongly right now," Melendez said at the watch party. "That's good for everyone. Regardless of your party, that is wonderful news for everyone."

The speech set the tone for the president's re-election campaign.

"I think he'll continue in the next four years to finish up all the jobs that he started," Marsha Shean said. "It's really important that our country stay on track."

Some Republicans said they're glad the impeachment went unmentioned.

"There's too much divisiveness," MaryAnn Young said. "It's just been terrible."

"It's almost too stupid to be even talking about it," Miedecke said.

Vice Chair of the Riverside County Democratic Party Agi Kessler said elements of the speech weren't entirely accurate.

"You can gloss over the top and make it sound right, but when you look at the facts, the reality is not good," Kessler said.

She added that the political divide of the night was evident.

"There is no meeting of the minds, and that is very worrisome to me," Kessler said.
