Hospitals are in need of blood donors to help save lives in the face of the potential for blood shortages.

"Patients are at risk if physicians and hospitals do not have enough blood to perform surgeries, provide treatment for cancer or sickle cell disease or to treat burn, trauma and accident victims," said LifeStream Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joe Chaffin.

To help, Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs will be hosting a blood drive on Tuesday and Wednesday at the bell tower building (Stergios Building).

  • Tuesday April 14, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday April 15, 12:00 p.m. - 5 p.m.

For appointments, call 800-879-4484 or go online to LStream.org/desertregional

"If you are healthy and feeling well, we urge you to donate blood. You will help save lives," Dr. Chaffin said.

Out of an abundance of caution, LifeStream is not taking donations from healthcare workers who have directly cared for confirmed or presumed coronavirus patients in the previous 28 days.

This includes anyone who had direct contact, for more than 10 minutes at less than 6 feet, regardless of PPE status.

If you are unable to attend but would like to donate blood, call 800-879-4484 or visit lstream.org to set up an appointment. LifeStream has donor centers open in La Quinta, Rancho Mirage, San Bernardino, Riverside, Ontario, Victorville, & Murrieta.
