Several tamarisk trees catch on fire near Interstate 10 & Date Palm

Cathedral City firefighters are working on containing a fire that has burned several tamarisk trees along Interstate 10 near Date Palm Drive.

Traffic along the I-10 is not affected, according to the California Highway Patrol, but the nearby train tracks may be.

Several viewers from around the west end of the valley have reported seeing the large plum of smoke. The fire was first reported at approximately 12:55 p.m.
