Goldenvoice, the parent company for the Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals, released a statement on the cancelation on the 2020 festivals and teased plans for the 2021 return.

On Wednesday, Riverside County officials announced that Public Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser signed an order canceling the festivals over concerns of a possible fall resurgence of coronavirus.

“I am concerned as indications grow that COVID-19 could worsen in the fall,” said Kaiser. “In addition, events like Coachella and Stagecoach would fall under Governor Newsom’s Stage 4, which he has previously stated would require treatments or a vaccine to enter. Given the projected circumstances and potential, I would not be comfortable moving forward.

County officials were in contact with Goldenvoice prior to making the decision.

"This is not the future that any of us hoped to confront, but our main focus remains the well-being of our fans, staff, artists, desert partners and everyone involved in the festival," reads the statement by Goldenvoice.

Goldenvoice confirmed the festivals will return in April, kicking off three weekends of festivals on April 9, 2021.

The statement mentions there will be announcements on a new lineup sometime in the future.

The company confirmed that all 2020 passes will be honored in 2021. Current pass holders will be sent an email by the end of the day on Monday, June 15 with further instructions to request a refund or to roll over to next year.

Tonight on "Coachella Valley: Questions Answered" hear from the Mayor of Indio, who says they are working with Goldenvoice on a third festival next year. The full interview airs tonight at 6:30 p.m. on CBS Local 2 and Fox 11.
