Stagecoach arrests down by 12% compared to 2019 festival, Indio police reveal

News Channel 3 is checking in with Indio Police to hear their recap on the three-week festival rush.

Both Coachella Music and Arts Festival along with Stagecoach Country Music Festival took place on the Polo Grounds in Indio, over the past three weeks.

Arrests were down for Stagecoach this year compared to the last one in 2019.

• Total Arrests: 125 (142 in 2019)
  • Drug/Alcohol/Intoxication: 57
  • False Identification: 64
  • Possession of Drugs for Sales: 0
  • Other: 4

• Total Citations Issued: 63 (187 in 2019)
  • Citations for the Unlawful Use of a Disabled Person Placard: 59
  • Parking in a Handicap Parking Stall: 4

“Primarily, our arrest where alcohol-related offenses, people consuming too much alcohol, people, unfortunately, buying and providing to minors, people that are probably you know, in their late teens, they shouldn't be they shouldn't be consuming alcohol,” said Indio Police Public Information Officer, Ben Guitron.

Indio’s community services manager Jim Curtis told News Channel 3 that this year’s festival season was overall a success. He added that the city hopes to focus on the traffic surrounding the Empire Polo Grounds in the coming years.

Curtis said he meets with 30 communities surrounding the grounds, in order to offer alternate routes to help avoid festival traffic.

“Just those little things that we can tweak on just making sure maybe turning the festival-goers another way to come down a different route to come in. So they can park a lot easier and not have the burden on the traffic issues that might be on some of our streets surrounding the polo clubs,” Curtis said.
