Confusion over Indian Canyon Drive wash closure and reopening
During yesterday's First Alert Weather Alert Day parts of the valley experienced dangerous flooding brought about by the storm.
Three vehicles were caught in the moving water at the wash area off of Indian Canyon Drive. You can read the full story here.
One of the drivers whose vehicle was trapped in the moving water tells us the wash area was open at the time the flooding happened.
The wash areas had been closed early Tuesday morning at 6 a.m. due to low visibility then reopened around 10 a.m.
There were several questions from drivers and residents as to why the wash areas didn't remain closed throughout the day.

The roadway, which is just south of Interstate 10, was shut down in both directions. In addition, Gene Autry, the next freeway exit to the east, was shut down between Via Escuela and the I-10.

Drivers have dealt with at least a dozen weather-related closures on Indian Canyon Drive through the Whitewater wash this year alone. It’s inconvenient for everyone, but also critical for others who live in some surrounding areas.
The frustrations with the all-to-often storm-related road closures between Interstate 10 and the city of Palm Springs are inconvenient for anyone trying to get somewhere.
