Palm Desert Senior Games & International Sports Festival is back in town

Over one thousand people are participating in this year's 2023 Palm Desert Senior Games & International Sports Festival.

This is the 20th year the event is being put on. It is part of a series of competitions happening in California. Athletes come from all over the United States to compete.

The games started on January 30 and go up until February 5, 2023, at several locations across Palm Desert.

Some of the individual competitions include 9-hole golf, track and field, pickleball, and tennis. Team competitions include volleyball, soccer, and beach volleyball.

This year the oldest person participating is 95 years old. The median age of participants is 66 years old according to Christian Liliedahl Allen, an instructor at Desert Recreation District.

The event is free for the public to watch.

The competitions begin as early as 8:00 a.m. each day. You can find a full schedule of events on the Desert Recreation District website.
