Residents in Desert Hot Springs are braving the elements during the storm

A Desert Hot Springs business owner says he is open until 9 pm, and if people need to get dry for a moment, he says, "they can stop by."

Where: Mi Ranchito at 66396 Pierson Blvd. Desert Hot Springs, Ca.

"It's calm right now, but I have opened the doors for the community whenever they want to come anytime there'll be good," says the owner of Mi Ranchito, Rodolfo Madrigal. He says he understands that the rain will change throughout the night, but he wants the community to know that his place is open to them.

The rain has been pouring down, and folks are still coming out to local stores to pick up a few items despite the weather conditions. "Let mother nature do its thing," says a local shopper, Steve Rivera. "I mean, it is what it is. Whatever happens, happens. I mean, what else you're gonna do?"

Some residents were preparing for the flood over the weekend, gathering sandbags and extra supplies.

Street Closures:

One resident is doing everything possible to protect his house during this storm. "I'm scared because the water can go inside my house and damage everything," says a Desert Hot Springs resident, Anthony Gaona. "And I really, I don't know how I'll do it if that will happen. He described the rushing water outside his home as a lake.

"This, this storm is one of the I already lived before, like every year, these kinds of rain hits on this street. And as you can see right there, there is a lake," says Gaona.
