Traveling for Labor Day weekend? Here’s what you should know

Gas prices are up once again across the country ahead of Labor Day weekend. According to AAA, the average price for gas in Riverside County as of Friday is $5.26.

Meanwhile, overall travel bookings were up 4% from last year, said AAA. This includes travel by air. Fliers are experiencing the busiest air travel summer on record.

The Transportation Security Administration estimates more than 14 million passengers are flying between Friday and Wednesday. This is nearly 11% more than last year.

If you're traveling out of Palm Springs International Airport you are advised to get there early to park or take a ride-share service to be dropped off.

Some travel plans can be affected by bad weather, so travelers are encouraged to check their flight status and road conditions ahead of time.

For those staying in the Coachella Valley, the California Highway Patrol has started its annual Labor Day weekend crackdown. It will be ramping up operations on highways and roads through Monday to catch those driving under the influence.
