One person dead after Palm Desert wreck on Hovley Lane near Washington Street

The person who died in the crash was identified as Connie Ramirez, 72, of Palm Desert.
"Based on the preliminary evidence, it appears Ramirez was attempting to turn south into the parking lot when she was struck by the vehicle that was traveling eastbound,'' the Riverside County Sheriff's Office wrote. "Alcohol or drug impairment does not appear to be a factor in this collision.''

One person was killed and another hospitalized after a crash in Palm Desert Tuesday afternoon.
The crash was reported at around 2:50 p.m. near the intersection of Hovley Lane and Washington Street.
A CAL FIRE spokesperson confirmed that there were two patients. A person who was pronounced dead at the scene and a second patient was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
There was no word on what led to the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
A News Channel 3 crew at the scene confirmed that westbound Avenue 42 is shut down from Idaho Street to Washington Street.
