A portion of the intersection of Indian Canyon Drive and San Rafael has been closed due to a major waterline break, the city of Palm Springs announced.

The closure was announced at around 12:30 p.m. By 1:00 p.m., the northbound Indian Canyon was back open, as were the eastbound and westbound lanes of San Rafael.

There is no word on when it may be back fully open.

As of 1:00 p.m., it appears that crews were able to stop the water spillage and were working on repairs.

City officials urge drivers to avoid the intersection if possible. Traffic is being rerouted around surface streets.

The Desert Water Agency has responded to the incident.
