21-year-old killed in motorcycle crash early Monday morning in La Quinta

A 21-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead after a crash early Monday morning in La Quinta.

The crash was reported at around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Avenida Bermudas and Calle Tecate.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, deputies arrived to the scene and found a green 2014 Kawasaki motorcycle on the sidewalk and the rider unresponsive nearby. They began lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived, who pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The driver was identified by the coroner's office as Iban Garcia Sanchez, 21, of La Quinta.

"Preliminary investigation revealed the Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling southbound on Avenida Bermudas when it failed to make the turn from southbound Avenida Bermudas onto westbound Calle Tecate and struck the curb, ejecting the rider," Sgt. Mark Chlarson of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department wrote in a statement. "Currently, it is unknown if intoxication played a part in this collision."

The La Quinta Traffic Team responded and took over the investigation, which is ongoing.
