The Palm Springs Plaza Theatre is moving forward with restoration after receiving funding

The Palm Springs Plaza Theater now has funding for its restoration project. During a council meeting, the Palm Springs city council voted to add funds to the Plaza Theater restoration project Thursday evening.

During the meeting, the council clarified that the building is city-owned and the funds for the project are not going to the Plaza Theater Foundation. The funds are going to contractors that will be hired to fulfill the projects.

The President of the Foundation, JR Roberts, shared during the meeting that they have raised "15.2 million dollars to assist the city in making this dream a reality".

The breakdown of the funds the city plans to use for the project are:

7.5 million is coming from Measure J (including 5.85 million from the Firestation and 1.65 million from community projects).

5.6 million from set-asides and 6.9 from reserves.

The foundation is required to pay back 10 million dollars to the city three years following the completion of the project.
