DWR hosting week of webinars to celebrate ‘National Groundwater Awareness Week’

Sunday kicks off National Groundwater Awareness Week which is in its 25th year!

To take part California's Department of Water Resources otherwise known as DWR is set to host a "week of webinars."

We are told these webinars will provide the public with a chance to learn about the importance of groundwater every day.

The first webinar is set for Monday at 11 a.m. and will cover the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) that was signed 10 years ago.

According to DWR officials the SGMA is California's groundwater legislation, which passed in 2014, and established a statewide framework to protect the State's groundwater resources.

Additionally, the DWR states, "Nearly 85 percent of Californians depend on groundwater and many communities are 100 percent reliant on groundwater for all their water needs."

The department says groundwater plays a critical role in water supplies which can help during droughts.
