Palm Springs brush fire – 128 acres; nearing 90% containment

The fire is at 128 acres with nearly 90% containment, Captain Ronald Skyberg of the Palm Springs Fire Department told News Channel 3 just before 2:30 p.m.

Two firefighters suffered heat-related injuries while battling a brush fire that burned 350 acres in Palm Springs on Monday. By the late afternoon, the fire was 50% contained.

The Tuscany Fire is burning near the 2500 block of City View Drive, near Tramview Road. It was first reported at around 11:25 a.m.

The fire was initially reported to have burned as much as 250 acres, however, FIRIS mapped the blaze at 126.1 acres as of 2:00 p.m.

Shortly before 3:00 p.m., the Bureau of Land Management confirmed the fire was at 350 acres.

Just before 5:00 p.m., fire officials told News Channel 3 crew at the scene the fire was 10% contained. By 6:00 p.m., it was 50% contained.

The Palm Springs Fire Department announced Monday night that the fire was burning at a slow rate of spread.

Fire ground operations are currently underway. Additional resources were called out for support as well, fire officials confirmed.

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway closed early for the day at around noon due to smoke. Normal operations are continuing at the top of the Tramway.

BLM confirmed that no structures are threatened, there are no injuries reported and, there have been no evacuations issued as of 3:00 p.m.
