Disaster expert shares how to be prepared for heavy rain, flooding in Coachella Valley
This week, the Coachella Valley is expecting as much as a half inch to an inch of rain on the valley floor following steady downpour on Thursday and Friday.
On the eve of the anniversary of the Valentine's Day floods, an expert with the Coachella Valley Disaster Preparedness Network shares how to be prepared for possible flooding this week.
Carla Sullivan-Dilley says she's seen residents underestimate the power of water, during the Valentine's Day Floods and even Tropical Storm Hillary.
It's why she's advising those on the roads to "turn around, don't drown." She advises residents to not leave the house for unnecessary errands and pack go-bags with important documents and medications as well as first aid materials.
Before the storm hits, Dilley also says residents should fill up their tanks, go grocery shopping and gather important goods in case road closures prevent travel.
The Coachella Valley Disaster Preparedness Network will be hosting a disaster preparedness training session on 2/13/2025 from 3 to 5 p.m. at 41550 Eclectic St., Palm Desert, 92260.
