Fire at Palm Springs home kills seven dogs, several other pets rescued
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) - There's new details on a Palm Springs house fire that tragically claimed the lives of seven dogs.
Seven dogs were killed, and several other animals were rescued after a fire at a Palm Springs home on the 2400 block of Starr Rd. Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters rushed in Thursday, and were able to to respond to scene around 12:45pm, saving seven more dogs and four cats—now in care at the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, according to Captain Ronald Skyberg of the Palm Springs Fire Department.
News Channel 3 spoke with the people inside of the home at the time of the fire and nearby neighbors who saw the fire start and called 911.
One occupant from the home was transported to the hospital for evaluation, and later released. There were no other injuries reported.
On Friday, the Palm Springs Police Department confirmed Animal Control had visited this home where the blaze broke out multiple times in the past two months, issuing three to four citations for "missing tags, required rabies vaccines, and barking dogs".
The Palm Springs Fire Department is currently investigating the cause of the fire, the Palm Springs Police Department has opened an investigation into animal cruelty.
