INDIO, Calif. (KESQ) - A man charged with the murder of his parents in Indio was arraigned in court on Wednesday.

Kevin James Reddy, 51, pleaded not guilty to charges, which include two counts of murder with a special circumstance. He will return to court on April 7 for a felony settlement conference. He is being held without bail.

Reddy is accused of killing his parents at their home on the 45000 block of Green Hills.

Newly released court documents reveal what led police to the discovery of the victims, identified in those documents as Arthur and Judity Reddy, both 84 years old.

According to the documents, the investigation began Friday, at around 4:50 p.m., when Indio police were dispatched to conduct a welfare check at the home on Green Hills Court. This after a report from a handyman who had been called to the house by Reddy. The handyman told a third party that, once inside, he saw what appeared to be feet near a pool of blood inside the bedroom and another body in a different room.

Officers responded but were unable to reach Arthur and Judith Reddy. After finding the house doors and windows locked and receiving no answer, officers forced entry into the home where they discovered both parents deceased.

Police located Kevin Reddy at a home on Blooming Court in Palm Desert.

According to the documents, he told officers his parents had gone to a retreat in Los Angeles. He then barricaded himself inside, prompting a response from the Desert Regional SWAT Team.

Search warrants were executed at both homes. Investigators found safes containing several live rounds of 9mm and .38 Special ammunition, as well as a shotgun.

Court documents also state that pellets consistent with shotgun birdshot were found in one of the victims, indicating a shotgun may have been used in Arthur's killing.

The felony complaint alleges that Kevin may have stabbed his mother.

Reddy’s criminal history includes convictions for attempted murder, weapons violations, and resisting arrest. He had previously posted bail on multiple felony charges and was discharged from parole related to the attempted murder case.

Neighbors described Reddy as aggressive and unpredictable, claiming he would yell into their surveillance cameras and regularly cause disturbances, according to the documents. Police said several had written letters to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, expressing concern.
