Ensuring STRs follow code compliance ahead of Festival Season
INDIO, Calif. (KESQ) - As festival season nears bringing thousands of visitors to the Valley, short-term rental bookings are expected to increase.
But this can be a problem for residents that live near one.
“The most common complaints we receive are loud parties, large groups on the premises or after hour amenities that extend beyond the curfew time for short term rentals.”
Richard Melendez, Indio Code Enforcement Officer
The city of Indio has rules in place for short term rental guests to follow, including:
- 10pm curfew Fri. - Sat.
- 9pm curfew Sun. - Thurs.
- Over occupancy
“If we do receive a complaint call. Our short term rental team will respond out to the location, will asses the call. If it’s something just after the curfew time, we will advise them, educate them on policies and procedures.”
Richard Melendez, Indio Code Enforcement Officer
Fines for breaking these rules start at one-thousand dollars, and can roll over to the property owner.
"No owner or manager wants there to be an issue on a property. It means that they get fines and also the guests get fined and nobody really wants that. We try to set really clear rules. We send them in our welcome messages. Whenever possible, I meet guests on sight.”
Carrie Isen, Locale Concierge owner & operator
Code compliance relies on the community to inform them of any disturbances. They're asking residents to report any problems.
