Well in the Desert cancels annual Christmas meal in Palm Springs

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) - Well in the Desert is cancelling its annual Christmas meal, an event that serves food to more than 1,000 people in need.

The organization confirming to News Channel 3 that the event will not be held this year.

Matt Naylor, president of Well in the Desert, said the government shutdown and rising food insecurity prompted the organization to shift resources immediately, rather than wait until Christmas.

The Christmas meal has been a recurring community gathering at the Palm Springs Convention Center, drawing volunteers and members of the community who may be homeless or families and seniors struggling to put food on the table.
