CHP honors Eisenhower Health employee for helping save woman’s life on I-10

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. (KESQ) — The California Highway Patrol honored an Eisenhower Health employee Wednesday for helping save the life of an 81-year-old woman during a medical emergency along Interstate 10.

Timothy Morgan was recognized by CHP officials and Eisenhower Health leadership for what they described as professionalism, compassion and a commitment to helping others during a critical situation.

According to CHP Sergeant Adrian Horta, the incident happened while he was responding to a welfare check involving an elderly woman stopped along the freeway in extreme heat conditions.

Horta said he found the woman unresponsive inside her vehicle and immediately began performing CPR after pulling her from the car. With additional officers and paramedics still minutes away, Horta said he was alone performing CPR in temperatures above 100 degrees when Morgan stopped his vehicle and ran over to help.

Morgan, who works for Eisenhower Health, assisted by taking over chest compressions while Horta continued rescue breaths. Both men said the woman began breathing again before paramedics arrived on scene.

Morgan said he felt called to stop and help, describing the moment as emotional and calling the woman’s recovery a miracle.

The woman was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center, where she later recovered. CHP officials said the woman’s family later thanked both men for their actions.

Horta, who has worked in law enforcement for 25 years, said the incident is one he will never forget. He said Morgan’s assistance made a significant difference during the emergency response and that he deserved the recognition from CHP.

Morgan’s wife, Catrina Morgan, described her husband as selfless and always willing to help others in need. She said she was proud of him for stepping in during such a critical moment.

The recognition ceremony included CHP leadership, Eisenhower Health executives and Morgan’s family.
