‘Poorly Drawn Pets’ fundraiser returns to support Animal Samaritans as shelters face summer strain

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) - As animal shelters face increased demand during the summer months, Animal Samaritans is bringing back a fundraiser designed to make a serious impact.

It's annual "Poorly Drawn Pets" campaign invites pet owners to donate $20 in exchange for a hand-drawn portrait of their pet that's intentionally more funny than flawless. While the artwork is meant to spark laughs, the fundraiser helps support the shelter's ongoing efforts to care for homeless animals across the Coachella Valley.

Animal Samaritans says donations will help fund daily operations at its no-kill shelter, provide food, medical care and enrichment for animals waiting to be adopted, and support the organization's low-cost veterinary programs that assist pet owners who may be struggling to afford care.

The fundraiser comes as many animal shelters continue to experience seasonal challenges, including overcrowding, rising operating costs and an influx of animals needing homes.

Organizers say the campaign is a fun way for the community to support local animals while raising awareness about the growing need for shelter resources during the busy summer season.
