Riverside County coronavirus update: 97 new cases, 12 deaths, 53 recoveries

Riverside County health officials provided the latest update on coronavirus cases, deaths, hospitalizations, and recoveries over the last 24 hours.

Cases

The total number of cases has jumped from 3,218 to 3,115 showing an increase of 97 cases in the past 24 hours.

Riverside has the most cases in Riverside County with 597, as well as the most deaths in the county with 25. Moreno Valley follows suit on both categories with 342 cases and 13 deaths.

Indio has the most cases in the Coachella Valley with 115. Palm Springs has the most deaths in the valley with 9.

Deaths

The number of deaths went from 100 to 112. There was no information released on this latest death, however, Riverside saw an increase in deaths today.

Last week, Riverside County had 69 deaths.

Recoveries

957 patients have successfully recovered so far. Yesterday, there was 904 recoveries, however, on Wednesday, that number was at 789. So we've seen 168 patients added to the recovery list since then.

Hospitalizations

There are 222 patients currently hospitalized, 83 of those patients are in the ICU.

Testing

36,082 patients have been tested so far at the county’s four community test sites, clinics, hospitals, and other locations.

Riverside County opened a fifth testing site in Blythe today. The other four testing sites are located in Indio, Riverside, Perris, and Lake Elsinore.

Last week, the county expanded testing to allow residents who don't have symptoms can schedule an appointment to be tested.

Additional Information

The doubling rate for Riverside County is remains at 8.7 days.

This means it would take nine days for cases to double. Data from last month showed our doubling rate at 4.6 days, which means protective measures like staying at home, covering the face, and testing is having promising results.

As part of continued efforts to grow the doubling rate and "flatten the curve" of coronavirus, Riverside County public health officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser ordered everyone to wear a face-covering when leaving home, including essential workers.

Face coverings can be bandanas, scarves, neck gaiters or other clothing that does not have visible holes.

This order runs through April 30.

Riverside County recently announced the reopening of the county's golf courses, as well as some outdoor activities, with restrictions.

Palm Springs then announced that it will continue to follow its own health order and keep golf courses closed.

If you are feeling symptoms, health experts say to call ahead and notify your healthcare provider.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, coronavirus symptoms may include:

• Fever
• Cough
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• Chills
• Repeated shaking with chills
• Muscle pain
• Headache
• Sore throat
• New loss of taste or smell
