Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder of two teenagers last year in Coachella.

The shooting happened on July 20, 2022 at the 86000 block of Calle Geranio. Witnesses told deputies they saw two people shooting at a vehicle in the area, Sgt. Edward Soto of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department told News Channel 3.

Those two suspects had left before deputies arrived on site.

Family identified the victims as Brandon Anguiano, 16, & Jestine Carrillo, 17.

"My brother Brandon Anguiano and Jestine Carrillo, his girlfriend were victims of a terrible gun violence," Brandon's sister wrote on July 22, 2022.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Office announced on Thursday that investigators identified one of the suspects in the murder earlier this year. An 18-year-old from Coachella was arrested in February and he has been in custody since.

The agency said that at the time of the murder, the suspect was a juvenile, therefore, his name will not be released.

As the investigation continued, detectives identified the second suspect as a 16-year-old boy out of the Coachella area. The teen was arrested on Tuesday near the intersection of Cesar Chavez Street and 55th Avenue in Coachella and took him into custody without incident.

He was taken to Juvenile Hall and booked on murder charges.

This is still an active investigation, and anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact Investigator Juarez of the Central Homicide Unit at (951) 955–2777 or Investigator Glasper of the Thermal Station at (760) 863–8990.
