The Academies of Coachella Valley High School has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious 2023 Golden Bell Awards, presented annually by the California School Boards Association (CSBA).

"This recognition highlights CVHS's exceptional efforts in preparing students for career and college through its innovative College and Career Readiness program," reads the announcement by the Coachella Valley Unified School District.

The Golden Bell Awards, now in its 44th year, is a highly sought-after honor among school districts and county offices of education across California.

The awards celebrate outstanding programs and initiatives that demonstrate excellence, equity, access, innovation, and a commitment to improving educational opportunities for students.

The district said CVHS's College and Career Readiness programs have been recognized for their exceptional commitment to linking learning with real-world applications through internships and job shadowing, creating college and career pathways, including dual enrollment, and providing diverse career exploration opportunities for students.

The program aligns with the core concepts of career and technical education (CTE), focusing on providing students with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in both their chosen careers and higher education. The selection process for the finalists has been rigorous, with the CSBA reviewing 230 applications this year.

Officials said CVHS's program stood out for meeting several key criteria, including being data-driven, making a significant positive impact on students, showcasing innovation and exemplary practices, demonstrating evidence of board support and leadership, aligning with the board's vision, displaying sustainability over time, and having the potential to be replicated.

Dr. Valentino, Superintendent of Coachella Valley Unified School District (CVUSD), commended the CTE team, saying, "This achievement is a testament to the relentless dedication, hard work, and innovation you have put into growing and developing the College and Career Readiness program at CVHS. Being a finalist in such a competitive year is remarkable. Your collective effort in molding the CTE program into what it is today — a beacon of hope and opportunity for our students — is why we stand tall in the vast educational landscape of our state. Thank you for your dedication to making a difference in our students’ lives. While we await the winner's announcement in October, I want you to know that you have already won in our eyes. Your accomplishments resonate far and wide, and the impact you have made on the lives of countless students will be felt for years to come."

Socorro Sanchez, Principal at Coachella Valley High School, added her congratulations, saying, "This is AMAZING! Congratulations on being a finalist; I am proud and honored to work alongside you all as you provide our Mighty Arab Students with abundant opportunities. Thank you for your dedication, passion, and all you do daily."

The CVUSD community eagerly anticipates the winner's announcement in October. The recognition as a Golden Bell Awards finalist underscores CVHS's commitment to excellence in education, innovation, and preparing students for successful futures.
